Campfire Reading

Whether it is textbook reading for school, or reading for pleasure, I can often be found with a book next to the campfire. On average I would say I read a book a week for pleasure, so considering my age (which I won't mention here) I have read many books in my lifetime. Here is the short list of those that rank at the top for me! If we share reading taste.... please send me some of your favorites so I can add them to my list!

First off..... I have gone digital. I am torn, as I really like to read actual books. I love the smell of new pages, I love flipping them, dog-earring them, and using a bookmark. But unfortunately books are heavy and take up space, so I have gone digital.

Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition

I love my Kindle Paperwhite E-reader. Easy to download and read books and great for lightweight travel which is a must when traveling by truck camper. No glare in the sunshine, and lighted for ease of reading in the dark. Waterproof so when Mr. Mason the waterdog splashes me on the riverbank, all is well! I love it and highly recommend it.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
I enjoy Historical Fiction and this story set partially in Seattle, WA is one that I have recommended more times than I can count. A favorite for sure!

The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin
I was not expecting this novel to be so engrossing and filled with so many foreshadowing hints as to the outcome for the characters. And do not let the movie version mislead you, this story is wayyyyy better! Good read!

The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
Rarely am I surprised by the ending of a book. I usually figure them out before the end so when I am blown away at the end it is a definite great read for me. This book did just that!

In the Company of Liars by David Ellis
A very interesting read and so originally written. Each chapter is the previous day in time. So you are reading backwards in a way. Love that different style.

One Day by David Nicholls
Another great one and not just based on the creative way in which it was laid out, although that does add to the appeal. The story of the same day each year is told over the course of 2o years.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
You may have noticed a pattern in my favorites..... Creatively written novels. This one not only stands out because the story line is good, but because the story is told from the perspective of the dog, Enzo.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
I have a firm rule when it comes to book reading...... if they are making it into a movie read the book first. This one wins the award for the most a movie can diverge from the actual story... the ending in the book and movie are totally different.

Thunder Dog by Michael Hingson
I do not read a lot of non-fiction but since this one contained one of my favorite things (a dog) I gave it a shot... and loved it. An amazing story.

Midwives by Chris Bohjalian
One of my favorite authors. He consistently writes good thought provoking books with well-developed characters, and this one is no exception.

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
A great story entwined with a moral dilemma. It was a book that made me stop several times and just think. It made me question what I would do in this situation, as a nurse, as a coworker, and a charge nurse. And the ending...... wow.
