Gooseberry Mesa, Hurricane Utah

Gooseberry Mesa is known as a world class slick rock mountain biking area. The mountain biking here was like nothing I have ever experienced elsewhere! This was one of those instances where I assumed that the road to a place like this would be fairly good since it was so popular, but oh my...... was I wrong. I wish we had timed how long it took us to rock & roll our camper in there, but we didn't. The road is not recommended for any vehicles after heavy rain, and I wouldn't recommend it for campers / RV's unless you are fairly adventurous in your driving. As you can see, cows are a road hazard as well. Once you arrive though, if mountain biking is your thing then it is amazing! On the road in once you pass Smithsonian Butte there are several little spur areas for dispersed camping. Most backed up to the mesa edge like the one we picked.
The turnoff to Gooseberry Mesa, is about 15 East of Hurricane on Highway 59. There is a sign that marks the turnoff. You will turn North onto an unpaved, rough road. Do not attempt in a rainstorm.
