Our favorite type of site - no reservation system, remote roads lead to it, right on the water, plenty of room to space out, and no one else nearby to complain if we play our music a little loud! This gem sits off the Manastash Rd outside of Ellensburg, WA. I don't have the exact mileage outside of town, but it wasn't too far as the snow level was still quite low when we visited the first week of April. I will update with coordinates the next time we visit. I would imagine this spot is very hard to get in the summer.... but a nice spot for a clear spring trip.
Back when we took this trip, I was working nights so by the time we arrived at a campsite I had often been up for 24+ hours. That often led to riverbank naps in the sunshine on day 1 of a trip......
