North Timp Point, North Rim Grand Canyon
The main North Rim campground had not yet opened when we visited and we much preferred to be away from the crowds anyway, so we did some research ahead of time on some more remote spots to camp. This one was great. We first went to Locust point and there were already 3 rigs there, and not another good spot so we decided to head to this point. When we arrived there was a group in the site closest to the point, but nobody else so we parked in an open area under the trees and made camp. The group left early the next morning and so for the second night we had the entire point to ourselves. I think the views here are actually better than at Locust Point. We were able to ride the Rainbow Rim trail right from camp - the entire trail is 18 miles and goes to 5 lookout points. We road from North Timp to Timp point and back ~ 6 miles. I think the campsites at North Timp point were also better than Timp Point.
Getting Here:
North Timp Point is a good hour and 15 minutes from the main road into the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I apologize that I don't have great directions but when searching via google map after the fact it is telling me "unnamed roads". My notes indicate off the Grand Canyon Hwy we ended up on FS Rd 206 then to 271 and 271A to N Timp Pt. If I can find better notes I will update them here.
