Big Arm State Park
Flathead Lake, Montana
Big Arm State Park is located on western shore of Flathead Lake and has 41 campsites that sit along an amazing stretch of colorful pebble beach. It is a great basecamp for swimmers, kayakers, anglers, and boaters. Minimal shade at most sites from the ponderosa pine and juniper trees. Sites vary in quality, some have ample space and more privacy, while others have a lakefront shore and sit right beside one another. A 2.5 mile hiking trail provides excellent views of the lake and mountains. Roads and sites are not paved and quite dusty and bumpy.
We arrived on a Wednesday night in July with no reservations and scored a non lake front site, B15, at the end of the loop, with lots of privacy, and a lake view. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed kayaking the lake for sunset and spent lots of time letting Mason swim in the lake.

Paddling the Flathead River
We put the kayaks in at Sportsman's Bridge Fishing Access in on Highway 82 between Somers and Big Fork. From here we paddled about 2 miles down to the lake and back. Farms, amazing huge homes, and beautiful calm waters on this adventure. Beautiful Paddle!
National Bison Range
Established by Theodore Rosevelt in 1908, the range is home to many species of animals and birds. Visitors can visit the range year round, however the Red Sleep Mountain Drive, a 19 mile drive to view wildlife in their natural setting from your own vehicle, and travel from 2585 ft. in elevation to 4885 ft. in elevation, is only open May to October.
Wineries and Breweries
Mission Mountain Winery
Glacier Brewing Company
Cherries BBQ Pit
Typically we do not feature food stops on our website unless they are a brewery or a winery, but this place was so good that rules should be broken for it. In fact we stayed in the area 2 days, and we went there both days! This is one of those places we will drive out of our way for in the future!
M&S Meats
And since we are breaking our own website content rules - here is another gem. If you like jerky, pepperoni, cheeses, or love spoiling your dog, be prepared to drop a franklin at this place! We enjoyed the treats from this place for the rest of our trip! And the cool fence line nearby is a great photo-op as well!
