La Pine State Park
La Pine State Park is a beauty in the desert! When you love the heat and lack of rain in the eastern desert, but want to see some green beauty as well - visit this paradise south of Bend, OR sitting alongside the scenic Deschutes River. It is a formal State Park campground with all the amenities, so if camping with neighbors is not your thing you might want to skip it. It is not our first choice style of camping either, but every now and then we need a reservation site and this one fit the bill for a couple nights while on a longer road trip. There are 136 sites, cabins, showers, RV dump, and it is open year round! We made a late reservation and got site 136 when someone made a cancellation. This site backs up to the main road and sits right at the park entrance but it was surprisingly private for the less than ideal location. We especially loved being able to ride our bikes on trails right from camp. Click here for trail map.

Tumalo Mountain Hike:
One of the best views in central Oregon that is somewhat of an easier hike considering the view! It is uphill the whole way, but the pitch isn't too steep. Views of Broken Top Mountain to the North and Mount Bachelor to the South. Elevation gain of 1400 ft. in about 1.5 miles.
