Tieton River Dispersed Sites
Beautiful boon-docking riverside sites are located about 5 miles east of Rimrock Lake. Off Hwy 12 take FS RD 1200 (Tieton Reservoir Rd) go 1/2 mile, then right on 580. Access roads on the right that go to the water. US 12 is across the river so you will hear some traffic noise in some sites. We have stayed here 2 times, both on a Sunday night. Once in July and once in March. Both times we were NOT the only ones taking advantage of these views so you cannot always count on snagging a spot here. Summer weekends I would not even try.
Spot #1
This was the July stay and we snagged the spot overlooking the bend in the river. The site was elevated over the river on a somewhat steep edge so you could not go into the river right at the camper. However just steps away there was a great little access with a pool for wading. This site was also much more open and level and could be suitable for bigger rigs.
Site #2
We were in the area for a quick overnight stay, and leaving very early the next morning to get in some powder turns at White Pass. We arrived late on a Sunday night hoping to get the same spot we had gotten before as we knew it was a quick in and out off Hwy 12, but there was already someone there. This spot was not as easy to access, and better suited for small rigs or tent campers... I wish I had taken a video of us accessing it because it was great maneuvering by the driver! Once we squeezed between two trees we settled in for a nice campfire and a good sleep with the sounds of the water rushing by. *My apologies for the picture quality.... late night & early am are neither good choices for pictures.
