Panther Flat is a shady tree covered campground with 39 sites that sits along the Middle Fork of the Smith River. None of the sites have a view, but the river is just steps down a trail. We spent 2 nights in site 20, it was a roomy site, with trees for shade from the summer heat. We hiked a nearby trail and Mason swam in the beautiful blue of the Smith River. It is a great campground that serves as a good basecamp for trips to the Pacific Ocean and Redwood National Park. It can be very busy in summer so reservations are recommended.
