Ike Kinswa State Park,
Mayfield Lake, WA
Ike Kinswa state park occupies 46,000 ft. of shoreline on the shores of Mayfield Lake. 101 campsites are spread among the forested park. Site amenities vary, some have full hookups, some partial, and some primitive. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Few sites are actually on the lake shore, but many have a peekaboo view like ours (Site # 80 and #88) did and a trail to the shore. Although we were up the hillside from the lake we were able to pack the kayaks to the shore in front of our site and launch. Water activities are the main attraction at this park. There are 1.5 miles of hiking trails including a nice trail that follows the lake shore. The park has restrooms and showers, a dump station, day use area with picnic tables and horseshoe pits.

In addition to motorized boating activities, Mayfield Lake is great for kayaking. We launched right from the shore below our campsite and paddled north along the shoreline, past the day use area, under the bridge and all the way until we couldn't go any further. Along the way we encountered a shallow area where boats park and party during the day, including a floatable beer-pong table! Past that area the waterway starts to narrow and eventually you end up between two towering rock walls on either side. Along the way we also found a small creek that we explored on foot and it lead to a waterfall. It was a wonderful kayak adventure.
The Falls.....
This time we launched the kayaks right from camp and went in the opposite direction. Not as much to see, I would choose the above route for sure if you only have time for one. However you do make it to a cool bridge overpass after a bit.
